History of the first chocolate factory in Villajoyosa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The origins of chocolate making in Villajoyosa date back to the 17th century<\/strong>. It was\nvery different then: sailors from the town would go coastal fishing and trade\nin C\u00e1diz to bring back all kinds of foods, including salted fish, almonds and\nmore exotic products from America, such as cocoa pods. Despite this, the first chocolatier did not appear as\nregistered until the region\u2019s census in 1810<\/strong>, and they then went on to make\nthe first cocoa factory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, this region was a pioneer in sweet\nexports in the Valencian Community. Today, Villajoyosa offers visitors a tour <\/strong>of the chocolate factories still\nstanding. Each year, the \u201cXocolat\u00edsima\u201d\nevent is organised. <\/strong>This chocolate celebration takes place in August and\noffers visitors guided tours of the town\u2019s chocolate factories in addition to\nan endless number of activities aimed at promoting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, none of the most famous factories known today\nwere the first. That honour goes to \u201cLa\nPerfecci\u00f3n\u201d, <\/strong>owned by Agust\u00edn Vinaches. After his business endeavour, the\nnumber of factories gradually increased. They exported products by sea and they\nalso used street selling throughout the Valencian region, Murcia, Barcelona and\npart of Andalusia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its Chocolates Valor Museum<\/a> <\/strong>has become the town\u2019s most popular and most visited museum. In fact, it offers several tours each day, in both Spanish and English. You have to visit this incredible place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chocolates Clavile\u00f1o<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For two years now this factory has been carving its\nniche in the market, becoming one of the industry\u2019s best-quality brands. In\nthis case, it was Jaume\nMart\u00ed who was the architect of this chocolate empire<\/strong>. It is\nanother venture that has adapted production to modern times, achieving a\nperfect product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has an immense variety of products available,\noffering all kinds of chocolate creations: milk chocolate, dark chocolate,\nwhite chocolate, and even sugar-free chocolate. Its drinking chocolate is delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chocolates Clavile\u00f1o<\/strong><\/a> Museum in Villajoyosa <\/strong>allows you to witness the traditional production\nprocess: how the cocoa beans are carefully subjected to the traditional\ncleaning process, roasted, fermented to augment their indescribable scent, and\nthen how their products are created. This museum is open Monday to Friday, from\n9am to 1.30pm and then from 4pm to 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
