From the charm of the old town to the crystal clear waters of its beaches, Benissa invites you to explore a wide variety of places and activities. What to see in Benissa? Here are our 10 favourite places to visit! One of those charming towns in Alicante that you can’t miss.

10 things to do and see in Benissa

1. Old town and historic centre

The beating heart of Benissa lies in its old town, an intricate network of cobbled streets that reveal the very essence of Mediterranean culture. The narrow alleyways lead to charming squares and traditional houses, where the typical architecture of the region is manifested in wrought iron balconied facades and weathered wooden doors. This setting evokes a nostalgic atmosphere, transporting visitors back in time.

2. Parroquia de la Puríssima Xiqueta

The majestic Parroquia de la Puríssima Xiqueta, also known as Catedral de La Marina, stands as an architectural masterpiece dating back to the 15th century. This Gothic building not only serves as a religious landmark, but is also a living testimony to Benissa’s rich history. Ornate details and colourful stained glass windows create a fascinating visual experience, while the serene atmosphere invites reflection. It is the spiritual heart of the community and a focal point for those seeking to understand Benissa’s historical and cultural identity.

3. La Fustera Beach

Benissa is not only an open air museum, but also a natural paradise. La Fustera beach, with its fine sand and crystal clear waters, offers a perfect retreat for those wishing to relax in the warm Mediterranean sunshine. Whether sunbathing, taking a dip or a leisurely stroll along the shore, this beach provides an idyllic escape to enjoy the coastal environment.

4. Pinets Cove

On the coast you will find a wild cove surrounded by boulders, outstanding for its impressive lateral views and, above all, the panoramic view of the imposing Peñón de Ifach. This beautiful cove forms part of the route of the Benissa Ecological Walk, offering the opportunity to make the most of your visit.

Pinets Cove has two different areas, both perfect for enjoying a refreshing dip. On the right side, there is a sandy area, while on the opposite side there is a rocky area, although it does not represent any danger and is easily accessible. This rocky section is ideal for a family day out, having fun with the little ones and enjoying the sun in complete tranquillity. Locally, these rocks are known as the “Dead Sea”. With a very low level and effective protection against strong waves, it is a perfect place to relax.

5. Benissa Ecological Walk

For nature lovers and hikers, the Benissa Ecological Walk is an exceptional choice. This trail winds through breathtaking scenery, giving walkers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region. Local flora and fauna complement the experience, making each step a deeper connection with the land.

The Benissa Ecological Promenade can be divided into two parts. There is the southern section and the northern section. In both cases, the official starting point is located on Avenida de La Marina, at the Benissa Tourist Office. For those who plan to explore the entire route, it will be necessary to prepare for a journey of just over two hours on foot.

6. Torre de la Peça

A silent witness to the maritime history of Calpe and Benissa, the Torre de la Peça was strategically erected to defend the coast from pirates in the 15th century. By exploring this site, visitors can enjoy incredible panoramic views of the Mediterranean and reflect on the days when this tower played a vital role in coastal protection.

7. Weekly market

Immersing yourself in local life is possible thanks to Benissa’s bustling weekly market. This vibrant market is a melting pot of colours and flavours, where locals offer fresh produce, handicrafts and typical products of the region. It is a unique opportunity to interact with the community and experience the authenticity of daily life in Benissa.

8. Cases del Batlle Museum

For a deeper dive into the history of Benissa, the Cases del Batlle Museum is an essential visit. This institution houses a valuable collection of artefacts and documents that tell the rich history of the municipality. From archaeological finds to contemporary art, the museum offers a comprehensive insight into the evolution of Benissa over the centuries.

9. Local festivities

Benissa’s cultural richness is fully manifested during its local festivities, such as the well-known Moors and Christians festivities. These celebrations, full of colourful parades, music and traditional dances, provide a unique experience that reflects the identity and joy rooted in the local community.

10. Bernia mountain range

The imposing Sierra de Bernia mountain range adds a touch of adventure to Benissa’s offerings. Just half an hour’s drive from the historic centre of Benissa, this mountain range offers opportunities for hiking and exploring. Trails wind through spectacular scenery. From the top, panoramic views take in both sea and land, providing a unique perspective of the region.

In short, Benissa presents itself as a complete destination, from the rich history of its monuments to the relaxation on its beaches and the immersion in everyday life through its markets and festivities.
