At Hotel Don Pancho you can enjoy a wide range of cuisine, desserts and sweets are one of our classics! Therefore, so that this holiday season we can be a little closer to you, we share with you which are the easiest Christmas desserts to make. In the following lines we show you how to prepare two of them: Christmas log and Christmas Pudding.
Christmas Log
El Tronco de Navidad is one of the most typical desserts of this time of year. Its origin is believed to lie in a tradition that consisted of decorating a large log and then burning it in the fireplace on Christmas Day. Afterwards, that log became an exquisite dessert.
You have probably seen it more than once in large stores or cake shops and it is becoming more and more common on family tables too.
It is basically a cake roll filled with light and fluffy frosting and chocolate coating. Different fillings can be used and it is a delicious dish with which you can surprise your guests.
The truth is that it is an easy recipe, but it has a good number of steps. We will try to show you how to prepare this dessert in the simplest way possible. These are the ingredients you need:
- 4 eggs
- 120 grams of flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 90 grams of sugar
- 200 grams of soft nougat
- 200 millilitres of whipping cream
- 3 sheets of gelatine
- 150 grams of fondant chocolate
- 40 grams of butter
- 40 millilitres of water
- Caster sugar
The first thing you have to prepare is the sponge cake. Start by beating the eggs well, until they get bigger. Add the yeast and the flour, mixing everything well. Place a sheet of baking paper on a tray and spread this dough on top. After preheating the oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees, bake another 10 minutes. When it is well cooked, take it out of the oven and place the cake upside down on a slightly damp cloth. Then, remove the baking paper, roll up the cake and let it cool down.

Now it is time to prepare the nougat cream. First, hydrate the gelatine with cold water. Then, put the cream and the nougat in a saucepan on the fire, let them melt while stirring. The next step is to add the well drained gelatine and mix everything well, still on the heat. When it is well integrated, remove it from the heat.
Once the nougat cream has been tempered, it is time to fill the log. Unroll the cake and spread the cream over it. Then, roll up the arm again. Cut a piece to use as a garnish.
Finally, prepare the topping. Put the chocolate, butter and water in a saucepan on the fire and stir until it is all melted. When it is ready, cover the trunk and the piece you have reserved with the chocolate. Let it cool down and with the help of a fork make some lines similar to those of a tree. Place the piece as if it were a branch and sprinkle with icing sugar. You can decorate the plate with some red fruits.
Christmas Pudding
This is a slightly more complicated recipe than the previous one, but only because it contains quite a few ingredients, take note of all of them:
- 250 grams of butter at room temperature
- 100 grams of cane sugar
- 3 eggs
- 150 grams of flour
- 150 grams of pitted sultanas
- 150 grams of pitted prunes
- 150 grams of pitted dates
- 150 grams of dried blueberries
- 125 grams of candied orange
- 100 grams of chopped almonds
- 125 millilitres of brandy
- 250 grams of breadcrumbs
- 150 millilitres of milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1 pinch of salt
The first thing to do is to cut the dates, plums and oranges into medium-sized pieces. Put these pieces with the rest of the fruit in a bowl and macerate with the brandy for three hours.

When this time is over, beat the butter into ointment and mix it with the cane sugar. Add the eggs and mix everything well. Add the cinnamon, the flour, the breadcrumbs, the salt, the milk, the almonds and the fruit you had with the brandy. Knead everything well.
Place this preparation in a mould and bake for 50 minutes at 180 degrees. Afterwards, all you have to do is enjoy this delicious Christmas dessert.
