You will fall in love with these beautiful cities and towns in Alicante
We are about to show you some of the nicest towns in Alicante. Villages that are not even mentioned in travel guides sometimes. Guadalest, Benisa, Teulada, Moraira and Biar are some of them. Discover them!
1. Guadalest is much more than one of the most beautiful towns in Alicante
Guadalest is not only a charming town located in the province of Alicante, it is actually one of the most lovely villages in Spain! That’s way it has the honour of belonging to the association The most beautiful towns in Spain.
Guadalest is located into a valley of the same name and surrounded by the highest mountains in the province. Because of that, from its upper part you will be able to admire the impressive views of the reservoir and its intense turquoise waters.
We recommend you to enjoy a walk to the old town which is placed at the highest point. When you arrive, after crossing a tunnel, you will get to a square with a scenic overlook. And, from here, you will see the ruins of the castles that once watched the landscape.
In addition, Guadalest is full of museums. Of miniatures, cars, motorcycles, cats or even pepper pots. If you are not in a hurry, you can visit the ones you like most. If not, we highly recommend you to visit the Casa Orduña museum. This local museum shows how a nineteenth-century bourgeois house was – with all its rooms decorated as at that time!
2. Benissa
Benissa is not only one of the most beautiful towns in Alicante but also one of the most unknown. To illustrate, the 4-km coastline of Benissa includes cliff tops, tiny bays, sandy beaches and perfect rocky coves for diving.
On the other hand, going through its narrow streets, the number of manor houses and little palaces will surprise you. Among the most amazing buildings are La Lonja and la Iglesia de al Purísima Concepción. The latter, known as la Catedral de la Marina, is famous for its large size. Moreover, if you prefer to discover how the bourgeoisie lived in this area in the 17th, just visit the Casa Museo Abargues. This museum is plenty of stories and anecdotes about those years. To recharge your batteries, visit the Convento de los Padres Franciscanos instead – a monastery where you will enjoy the silence and tranquility that is breathed there.
3. Teulada y Moraira
Although they usually go together, the truth is that Moraira belongs to the beach area while Teulada is located in the interior part instead.
Regarding Moraira, its shopping and leisure area is very close to the beaches. This zone is ideal for a day of shopping due to the nice shops nearby. Furthermore, a castle can be found there overlooking the sea. But if hiking is what you like, we advise you to climb up to the Cap D’Or, a very well preserved watchtower.
4. Biar
And now we go to the interior province to discover one of the most beautiful and best-kept towns in Alicante: Biar. If you like castles and medieval battles, then this place is worth a visit!
Nestled in the landscape, its castle is the most surprising thing about this town. Placed on top of a rocky hill at an altitude of 750m, Biar castle has an Almohad style. At the same time, to get some good pictures, you only need to visit its aqueduct, which is located on the outskirts, at dusk. It is a scenery worth seeing!
