In terms of its history, we should mention that in 1834 the island served as a refuge for populations from Benidorm and Villajoyosa who were fleeing from cholera. Furthermore, as was the case with Tabarca Island centuries before, pirates used this island as a base for their attacks on ships and coastal towns. Finally, exploitation of its waters was always reserved for Benidorm until 1506 when King Ferdinand extended this privilege to Villajoyosa too. Did you know that?

1. Protect yourself against the sun
The sun offers numerous benefits but in excess it can be your worst enemy. Overexposure to the sun will physically and mentally wear you down. Additionally, it will burn your skin if you don’t take precautionary steps. What can you do to prevent this?
Remember that on Benidorm Island there are few shady areas and you will need to put up with the sun during your visit, along with the heat. Therefore, make sure you take sun cream suited to your skin type and sunglasses to protect you from its ultraviolet rays.
2. Take fins so you can explore the whole island
You can’t leave Benidorm Island without trying out diving and exploring its incredible depths. If you have the right fins, you can enjoy free diving at a speed that will allow you to circle the island and check out its seabed. We recommend you always go accompanied by a partner or in a group. The more people, the more fun you’ll have!
3. Take diving goggles and enjoy amazing underwater views
If you want to go diving at Benidorm Island during your stay, make sure you take some diving goggles along with your fins. Diving boots are the best option for getting to the island’s complex places. You will need to climb rocky obstacles covered in water so we recommend this type of footwear, which adapts to any surface and helps prevent unnecessary injuries. If you don’t have diving boots you can wear other types of sports footwear that is comfortable for exploring the island.
